New Residents

Our worms are here! All the way from California. They will be used in the Vermiculture. More on that later.

A neighbor called to say that they had a small bird using their old wreath. There were two eggs in the nest encirled by the ribbon. It is probably a titmouse, though I did not see the bird.

Got a call from a resident who said she saw a small bird using this hole. I haven't seen it used yet, have you?

Yes or No

No, to the Canada Goose because of the poop. They can really become pests.

Goose poop. Watch where you walk.

Yes, if it is a green frog.

Yes, to this lovely wildflower, Bloodroot. But it will soon be gone, smothered by the lesser celandine.

Grape hyacinth is another garden escapee, but there are just a few on the Maris Trail.

Beauty and Building Progrss

We will soon have a light on our Foulkeways sign.

The road to be closed.

This beautiful cherry you might not have seen, but the others are familiar.

Weed or Wildflower

Fig buttercup or lesser celandine is a weed that forms dense patches displacing many native plant species like bloodroot, wild ginger, spring beauty, trout lily and others.

A few marsh marigolds can be found here at Foulkeways. It is a wildflower of wet areas and very toxic. Don't eat it!

This is cardamine or bitter cress, and can be found all over. Definitely a weed, but only a problem if it is in your garden.

This Thyme-leaved speedwell or Veronica is just too pretty in my book to be called a weed.

This vinca or periwinkle is an escapee from the garden, so some might call it a weed when it is in the woods.

Return

I've been away for a week, and noticed some new things as a walked around this afternoon. The Foulkeways sign has been moved.

Cornus mas.

A honey bee at the crocus.

A sale of St. Pat's day goodies in the lobby.

The fish pond has been cleaned up.

Pebbles have been added to the bays outside the front doors. What will come next?
