Bee Weigh In

The hives are weighed to see if they are heavy enopugh to get them through the winter. The hives are going dormant, the drones are thrown out, and no more young are being raised. The hives will all need to be fed sugar water to get them ready for winter. Frost will be here soon, and there will be no more flowers to supply nectar.

The bees are fed a mixture of 2 parts sugar to one part water to get them ready for winter.

In one empty feeding tray we find the bees are attempting to fill this "empty" space in the hive.

Screen, which provided ventilation in the summer, are removed for the winter.

A mouse guard is attached to each hive. Mice like the idea of a nice warm hive in which to spend the winter.
