This is a most successful hive, but all hives have queens, and only one has a "virus", which we hope they will overcome.
That gooey brown stuff is propolis, which I suggest you google. It is now thought to be beneficial to bees rather that just used for sealing small spaces. Our beekeeper collects it, dilutes it with water and uses it to coat the inside of his hives, much as the bees would do in the wild, offering protection to the hive.
He also found this web with baby spiders in one corner of a hive.
But this praying mantis found in one hive was unceremoniously removed. No free lunches provided.
